Celebrating 30 Years of Java
The past week, I stepped into the buzzing atmosphere of JCON Europe 2025, joining many fellow Java enthusiasts to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Java in the iconic location of the Cinedom multiplex in Cologne.
One highlight of my visit was connecting with my colleagues from adesso SE’s Cross Industries LOB. It was great getting to know them better through engaging conversations and discovering more about their project, “adesso Parkhaus.” This student initiative showcases an innovative smart parking management system tailored for modern parking garages. By using sensors, the system automatically detects when a car occupies or leaves a space, instantly updating overhead lights—green indicating availability and red signaling occupancy. Behind the scenes, a robust Spring Boot–based backend ensures real-time spot tracking, seamless reservations, and efficient space allocation, bringing structure and scalability to the everyday challenge of parking.
Not so far away, Oracle’s stand offered another memorable experience, as I got behind the wheel of their F1 simulator, with an impressive Java-built dashboard. Talk about adrenaline mixed with tech!
Besides the insightful talks I attended, one of the highlights of my JCON attendance this year was the chance to connect with many passionate experts from the Java community. The most meaningful encounter for me was with Richard Fichtner, with whom I had an inspiring conversation about personal growth and ways of playing an active role within the Java User Groups.
Although my visit was short, I had an amazing time, so many thanks for all the speakers, organizers and sponsors for making this possible.
See you next year, JCON! 👋
